BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — The Mid-Carolina Rebels remain winless after a 28-0 loss to the Batesburg-Leesville Panthers in Batesburg on Friday night.
Mid-Carolina took the opening kickoff and drove to the Rebels’ 47-yard line before having to punt. Batesburg-Leesville would score but miss the PAT, putting six up on the scoreboard with 8:13 left in first quarter.
Mid-Carolina took possession on the kick off but ended up punting again. Conner Doolittle’s punt put Batesburg at its own 30-yard line. Mid-Carolina pushed the Panthers back to the 18 and forced a fumble on third and 22. The Rebels recovered the fumble at the Batesburg 23-yard line but were unable to capitalize and turned the ball back over on downs at the Batesburg 20-yard line.
Batesburg didn’t have much better luck, going three and out before punting the ball away to Mid-Carolina. The Rebels drove to the 45 but were unable to get another first down. Doolittle’s punt pushed Batesburg to its own 19 and Mid-Carolina was able to hold them there and force a punt. A roughing the kicker penalty on Mid-Carolina put the ball back in Batesburg-Leesville’s hands with an automatic first down.
On fourth and 2, Batesburg punts the ball away but a roughing the kicker penalty drops the ball back to Batesburg-Leesville with an automatic first down. The remainder of the drive was littered with penalties against Mid-Carolina. The Panthers made it into the endzone and ran a successful two-point conversion, taking the score to 14-0 with 3:38 left in the first half.
Mid-Carolina drove its next possession to the 40-yard line but ended up punting the ball away with 1:23 left in the half. Batesburg-Leesville took a knee on its next possession to end the half with a 14-0 lead.
The Rebels held the Panthers on the second half kickoff and the Panthers punt to the Rebels put them on the Rebel 9 yard line. Mid-Carolina was unable to move the ball and Doolittle punted again, putting Batesburg on its own 48. Batesburg drove to the Mid-Carolin 43 and converted a fourth and 3 before driving the ball into the end zone. The PAT was good and the score was now 20-0.
Mid-Carolina was forced to punt after the kickoff and then held the Panthers forcing them to punt.
The Rebels took the ball at their 27 for the start of the 4th quarter and drove to the Panthers 36 before fumbling. Batesburg recovered the ball with 7:50 left in the game. Batesburg drove to the red zone with the help of a personal foul and punched into the end zone. A two-point conversion was good making the score 28-0 with 4:01 left in the game.
Mid-Carolina bobbled the ball on the kickoff and only got out to the 13-yard line. Two plays later, an interception gives the ball back to Batesburg-Leesville on the Rebels’ 29 yard line. The Rebels were able to hold them and keep the Panthers from putting up any more points.
The Rebels travel to Abbeville on Friday and take on Newberry the following week to complete the normal schedule for the year. Both of the next two games are away.
