NEWBERRY COUNTY — Newberry and Mid-Carolina travel for their varsity football game Friday while Whitmire hosts Saint Joseph’s. The following game notes reflect history about the schools and their opponents.
Newberry at Ninety Six
— Newberry leads the series 10-3 since 1924.
— Newberry is 4-1 in games at Ninety Six. Their wins came in 1927, 2007, 2009 and 2011. The Bulldogs’ lone loss came in 2005, which was their only regional defeat that year.
— Newberry is 3-1 at Ninety Six in regional play.
— The last time NHS was 7-1 was 2002. Their lone loss up to that point was to Phil Strickland’s Batesburg-Leesville team.
— The last time NHS was 3-0 in regional play was 2006.
Mid-Carolina at Batesburg-Leesville
— Batesburg-Leesville leads the series 30-8 since 1958.
— The last time Mid-Carolina won three out of four meetings with the Panthers was 1989-92.
— Mid-Carolina picked up its first regional win of the 1985 and 1987 seasons with a victory over Batesburg-Leesville.
Saint Joseph’s at Whitmire
— Saint Joseph’s has won all three meetings since 2010.
