SUNSET BEACH, N.C. — The Newberry Wolves were in 17th place Monday in a huge field after the first round at the Lenoir-Rhyne Myrtle Beach Intercollegiatey.

The Wolves shot a 16-over par 304 in the first round, ahead of perennial regional contender UNC Pembroke.

Ryan Wilkinson was the Wolves’ leader Monday with a 1-over par 73 to sit in a tie for 28th place. Tommy Hurst and Ewen Donaldson were tied for 57th with matching 4-over par 76s. John Paul Ferguson was tied for 80th with a 7-over par 79 and Dixon Walker shot an 8-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 87th.

The Wolves wrapped up play with 18 holes Tuesday.
