OXFORD, Ohio — In a first for the Newberry College field hockey program, freshman Caitlyn Warren has been named the Rookie of the Week by the Independent Schools Alliance.
This is the first conference honor in the program’s short history. Warren had a hand in all four goals scored by the Wolves last week, with assists on both goals in the Lindenwood game. She also scored Newberry’s opening goal against Bellarmine and had assist on the game-tying goal in the first half.
“This is a great recognition for not only Caitlyn, but for the team,” said Newberry head field hockey coach Catherine Somits. “The girls have produced every game offensively, and having made some adjustments tactically, Caitlyn has become a huge factor in our attack. I’m very proud of her for being so flexible and coachable.”
Warren is Newberry’s leader in points through the first five games of the season, with three goals and three assists.
The Wolves are back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday, hosting Mercy College of New York at Setzler Field.
The ISA serves as the grouping for Newberry’s end of the season tournament and consists of Bellarmine, Dowling, Limestone, Lindenwood, Mercy and Newberry. The announcement was made Wednesday.
