NEWBERRY — The Newberry College women’s golf team is ranked No. 22 nationally in the latest GolfWorld/WGCA Coaches’ Poll, which was released Wednesday.
Newberry has competed in one tournament so far this fall, finishing in seventh place at the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate, with three freshmen in the lineup. This year’s lineup has three freshmen and two juniors competing against some of the top teams in the nation and region under the direction of LPGA Southeast Sectional Coach of the Year Clarissa Childs.
The Wolves are the only South Atlantic Conference team in the top 25 in today’s release, with Carson-Newman and Tusculum listed as receiving votes. A total of 13 teams from the highly competitive South Region are in the ranking.
Newberry’s next action comes on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, when the Wolves head to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to compete in Nova Southeastern’s Guy Harvey Invitational at the PGA National Resort.
