ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — With a 54-hole total of 1-under par 215, Newberry College’s Tommy Hurst tied for fourth place at the Jay Jennison Memorial after Tuesday’s final round. As a team, the Wolves finished in 15th place with a 52-over par 916.
Hurst shot a 2-over par 74 in Tuesday’s third round to earn his first career top five finish, just three strokes behind medalist Alex Weare of Queens. Hurst’s 215 is his career low for 54 holes, breaking his previous personal best by nine strokes.
Behind Hurst in the Newberry contingent was John Paul Ferguson, who shot a career low 2-over par 74 in Tuesday’s round. He finished tied for 56th spot with a 13-over par 229. Feruguson has improved his score in each of his five rounds played this season.
Ewen Donaldson tied for 69th with a 17-over par 233, Fraser O’Connor finished 84th with a 26-over par 242 and Fredrik Fossum tied for 85th with a 27-over par 243.
The Wolves will take a week off before participating in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate on October 7-8 in Sunset Trail, N.C.
