VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Caitlyn Warren scored the first two goals of her collegiate career off assists from twin sister Courtlyn, but it wasn’t enough offense as the Newberry Wolves dropped a 5-2 decision to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins in the first road game in Newberry’s program history.

With the loss, Newberry falls to 0-3 on the season entering home games against Lindenwood and Bellarmine this weekend.

The Warrens connected for both of the Wolves’ goals in the second half, as VWC held a 3-0 halftime lead. The host Marlins scored another early in the second half before the Wolves’ offense really began to pressure the home team.

Courtlyn fed Caitlyn for consecutive goals off of penalty corners, as the Wolves cut the lead to 4-2 with just under 10 minutes to play.

VWC scored one more goal in the late going as Newberry put the pressure on to cut the margin, and the Wolves were unable to convert on their chances late in the game.

Newberry had eight shots in the game with four on goal, while goalkeeper Morgan Downey saved four of the Marlins’ nine shots on goal.
