Wagener-Salley at Whitmire: Whitmire leads 3-1 since 1978.
Berea at Newberry: Newberry leads 2-0 since 1974.
This is Berea’s first trip to Newberry High since an opening round loss of 15-0 in the 1974 playoffs. Newberry won the meeting last year in Greenville 51-0.
Newberry is 48-23-3 on homecoming games since 1935. They are 5-1 in homecoming games in years ending in a ‘3’ with their lone loss coming in 2003 to Broome.
A win would give the Newberry graduating class of 2014 a record of 2 wins and 2 losses on homecomings in their four years at NHS. This would make 44 straight freshman classes since 1967 that had at least a 2-2 homecoming record during their four years at NHS.
A win would give Newberry its second 3-0 start since 2011.
If Newberry shuts out Berea, it would mark the first time since 1926-29 that the Bulldogs have held an opponent to three straight shut-outs in their first three meetings in the series.
If Newberry shuts out Berea, it would mark the 12th time, the first since 1969, that Newberry has held at least two of their first three opponents scoreless to start a season.
Note: Mid-Carolina has an off week Friday.
