Perron named associate head basketball coach
NEWBERRY — Rob Perron has been promoted to associate head coach of the Newberry College basketball team. The announcement was made by Dave Davis, head basketball coach.
Perron in his second season at Newberry after serving as assistant coach in 2012-13, helping lead the Wolves to a South Atlantic Conference-record 88.1 points per game.
“We are extremely excited to announce the elevation of Rob Perron to associate head coach,” Davis said. “Rob is one of the best in the business and we are so fortunate to have him back again this year. He is clearly a head coach and his experience recruiting and coaching are invaluable to us here at Newberry.”
Prior to his time at Newberry, Perron was the director of basketball operations for the Charlotte 49ers for five seasons. He has over 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, including three years as the head coach at St. Andrews (2003-05).
Perron is no stranger to the all out, all the time style of Davis, as he served as Davis’ associate head coach at Pfeiffer in 2005-06 and also assisted Davis at Pfeiffer for three seasons (2000-02). In his four years at Pfeiffer with Davis, the Falcons had an 81-37 record.
He is a 1996 graduate of St. Andrews, and started his coaching career there as an assistant from 1997-99. He was a team captain and team MVP for the Knights. He scored over 1,100 points with over 700 rebounds in a four-year playing career which also included two seasons at Normandale (Minn.) Community College.
Perron and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Carter and Stella.
