This is the season of thankfulness; a time to count our blessings and praise God — a time to be thankful. It’s November. Air is getting cooler, leaves turning to the brilliance of autumn colors, and our thoughts shift to the fast approaching holiday — Thanksgiving, a time to give thanks to God.

Giving thanks increases love in your heart. Faith and love constitute the whole character of the Christian. Faith receives, love gives. Faith brings us to God; love brings us to one another.

On Thanksgiving Day, hundreds of people offer thanks to God. Giving thanks is more than just saying you are grateful. It is an attitude of the heart! When you maintain an attitude of thanksgiving, you will experience great blessings.

Thanksgiving is a legal national holiday set aside for feasting with family, friends and giving thanks to God. However, thanksgiving should be a daily event, not just a proclamation. The act of giving thanks should be part of our lives 365 days a year. Realize that no matter where you are now, what your position, what you have or have not, you do have something for which to be thankful.

During this Thanksgiving holiday we focus our blessings and express to God our gratefulness for them… Make thanksgiving an important part of your life and you will find your viewpoint toward life will change to becoming a more positive, loving and humble person.

Thanksgiving is a time to express and show gratitude. (Psalm 92: 1-2) It is good to say, ‘Thank you to the Lord. Every morning tell Him, thank you for your kindness and every evening, rejoice in all His faithfulness.” Faith and love constitute the whole character of the Christian. Faith receives, love gives. Faith brings us to God; love brings us to one another.

Jesus refers to Psalm 100.4: “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise, be thankful unto him and bless his name.” How often do we enter into God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise? Many of the times we enter his court asking for our needs, His favors, and His blessings. Yes, we want these desires. But there are many times we need to enter into God’s presence to worship him, thank him for all he has done for us.

Thanksgiving is for “all creatures, great and small:” At this time, we are thankful to God for the creation of all the non-human creatures that enhance our lives. Let’s offer recognition for “all creatures great and small” who have so much wisdom and love to give us. We are all truly blessed.

Celebrate Thanksgiving Day by thanking God for the blessings He has given us — family, friends, shelter, food and clothing, the purpose of the Thanksgiving holiday. We must always maintain a viewpoint of thanksgiving toward God. One way is to show gratitude to others.

Your feelings are extremely important. Giving thanks to God and praising Him changes your outlook and improves your faith, gives a positive attitude, and drives away discouragement. You can’t thank the Lord for more than a few minutes before something starts happening inside of you – strength, humility and power rise up in your spirit.

Learn to give thanks and you also learn to love. The need for love has been built into us by God. His Word teaches us how to give and receive love. Say “I love you” to special people in your life. This is also a time to remember and reflect on where you have been and where you are now.

Giving thanks is a daily privilege. Realize that no matter what your position, no matter what you have or don’t have, you do have something for which to be thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.
