Here at your Chamber, we routinely ask ourselves and others what additional programs or events we can do to promote a positive business environment and to enhance the quality of life in Newberry County. How can we better foster economic growth while meeting the needs of our communities? We want to hear from you.

August Recap

Ronald and Wilda Cotney opened their restaurant R&W’s Fish House on Wilson Road in Newberry on Aug. 1. We wish them success in this venture.

Our Mayoral Breakfast was held on Aug. 6 with five area mayors speaking and answering questions about their municipalities. We learned of exciting projects as well as some challenges facing our county.

Springfield Place/JF Hawkins sponsored the August Business After Hours at Springfield Place. Attendees enjoyed great food, cold beverages and nice door prizes.

Upcoming September Events

On Monday, Sept. 1 we will be closed for Labor Day. Business After hours, sponsored by and hosted at Little Mountain Family Practice will be Thursday, Sept. 4 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. All current and prospective members are invited to attend this event.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24 Lunch ‘N Learn will be sponsored by Wicker’s Greenhouse and Nursery and held on the downstairs portico of Community Hall. Judy Wicker will present some of her plants while we learn about various gardening and landscaping issues. Limited to the first 20 registrants. There will be a $6 charge for lunch.

The Chamber Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 22 at the Country Club of Newberry. Shotgun start is at noon. Mark your calendar and get your team together. Sponsorships of all types are available, some on a limited basis. Contact the Chamber or visit our website for details.

We welcome our new members for August — Alpha Tree Service and Cooper Motor Company.

The 13th annual Liver Nips Contest will be featured as part of Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 4. It is open to the first 12 two-person teams to register with the Chamber.
