Hello everyone. It worked! We did a rain dance in The Whitty and sure enough we had a few great days of rain and cooler weather. Plants, lawns and flowers are still smiling. So with that good cheer, let’s do our birthday wishes then onto local news.

News and events


A Reunion of The Whitmire National Guard Unit members will be held on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. More information is on the Facebook invite.


The fall sports deadline is Aug. 15. Entry fees and applications must be turned in no later than above date. See Whitmire Recreation Coordinator Joey Dillard at the table set up on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 at Whitmire Community School. The Whitmire Economic Board members along with The Pearl Of The Piedmont Artisans Guild will sponsor Art In The Park Day Aug. 23 at Heritage Park. This is a family oriented event. The board members and artisan group can be contacted on their Facebook pages.


The 2014 summer golf program was a success. The Whitmire Recreation Department, along with the Whitmire Golf Association members coordinated a free golf instruction program for youth and teens. The mission of the program was to expose the youth to the basics of golf: rules, etiquette, sportsmanship, hands on instructions.


The association members gave their time, along with supplies like clubs, golf balls, and carts. The instructors included Martha Suber, David and Elizabeth Bostic, Jimmy Moss, Ron Harsha, H. D. Carter, Billy Lollis. Some of the youth participants included Hunter Alexander, Mikhail and Makenna Moss, Jessy and Colt Burbridge, Dalton Campbell, and Ethan Gambrell.


Can you believe its almost back to school time already? Aug. 18 is the date for this year’s back to school. Soon Legends Stadium will be filled with the crowd sounds, along with mighty mighty sounds the WCS Royal Regiment Band.
