Hey everyone. Hope your Memorial Day mini-vacation was a good one. We have more Whitmire Area events to talk about, so lets get the birthdays from Gottrocks the birthday fairy and off we go to event land.

Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Robert “Bob” Yanetti who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.

News and events


Homecoming Services at St. Timothy Lutheran Church are Sunday, June 1 at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend and fellowship with former Whitmire members.


WCS has their Baccalaureate service, Sunday June 1 at First Baptist Church. The Graduation Ceremony is Tuesday June 2. The last day of school for undergraduates is June 4.


The Whitmire Economic Development Board has scheduled the biggest yard sale ever in Whitmire! June 6 -7 are shopping days in Whitmire. The 49 mile yard sale starts at I-26 at the Clinton exit all the way to Chester, via Hwy 72 all the way to I-77 Chester/Charlotte exit in Richbourg.


The board members have partnered with the Chester Downtown Development Association for this multi-county event. More information is available on the Whitmire Economic Developments’ Facebook Page or e-mail Maria McMurtury at mariamcmurtury@yahoo.com.


The board members have landscaped and planted flower and garden goodies at the area of the former Suber’s Café location beside the Little Cricket. The community garden will be for the community. This is one of their beautification projects to keep the main drag through Whitmire clean and beautiful.


The second Saturday Farmers Market will be at the parking lot in Heritage Park beside the Community Center on Glenn and the former Park Street School location. The start time is 8:30 a.m. Local farmers and gardeners are welcome to bring plants, flowers, vegetables. This event is also sponsored by the Economic Board.


The weekend of June 14 includes the annual Wolverine Golf Classic. The classic will be co-hosted by The Whitmire Golf Association. Sign up day deadline is June 2. Contact the Golf Association or Martha Suber at Whitmire Community School.


The annual Party in The Pines Festival is June 12-14. There will be three nights of carnival rides, music, arts/crafts, and fair food on Main Street. Free music concerts and dancing from Blues, Soul, Rock, Country and gospel on each night. The Whitmire Jaycees sponsor this event. Contact the Jaycees at whitmirejaycees@yahoo.com. Be sure to make a donation to the Whitmire Chapter-this is their biggest fundraiser of the year.


The Whitmire Recreation’s Summer Golf Program will begin June 15 at the Whitmire Golf Course, near Legends Stadium. Children, youth, teens and adults are welcome to learn the game of golf.
