The Whitmire Commodities Food Bank will be at the Whitmire Community Center on April 30 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Whitmire Economic Development Board members have a Mothers Day Special, “Blooms For Mom” on Saturday, May 10 at the Whitmire Community Center. Mom has access to a Mary Kay Makeover, arts and craft gifts will be for sale, as well as flowers and plants for sale. The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Contact Misty Collier on the Economic Boards’ Facebook page. The board’s June event includes the multi-county yard sale from I-26, Clinton to I-77 and Chester on June 6-7. The yard sale will offer a nice route through Whitmire from Clinton I-26 exit through via Highway 72 en route to Chester, through Carlisle, Maybinton Community across the Tyger River on to Lowrys and Chester.
The weekend of May 10 is also the day of a celebration of 144 years of service at Cedar Grove A.M.E. Church on Highway 66-Whitmire. The committee members wish to contact former members, deceased members, so they can be recognized. Fannie Hopkins is the contact person.
The First Baptist Church members will host a Missions Golf Tournament Saturday, May 24 with a 9 a.m. tee time. The contact persons is Jimmy Moss of the Golf Association and Loraine Long. Volunteers are need too.
The Whitmire Jaycees annual event, the 2014 Party in the Pines Nightly Festival will be the second weekend in June, starting Thursday and going through Saturday. Thursday is family night with gospel music and special priced carnival rides. Friday will feature a Deejay spinning a variety of tunes, with local blues from The Mattie Phifer Band and WCS Talent Show with students.
Saturday will feature the parade at 1 p.m. The carnival will be open earlier to give the kids and parents more time. The Saturday night street dance will feature Cody Webb, an up and coming country music talent who made the move to Nashville. Food and craft vendors will be available on Main Street near the concert stage. Parking is on west end of Main lots and at Heritage Park.
