Hello everyone, welcome to spring but one more winter fling is on the way this week. The birthday fairy has one more wing de-ice for the season and then its spring and summer coolant refill and linen and cotton wing covers. Yep, let’s do our birthday wishes and then on to local events.

Congratulations to former Whitmire residents, Theresa and Johnnie Wardlaw Jr. on the recent birth of their granddaughter, Lillian Rose. Lillian’s parents are Tracie and Josh Wardlaw.

In upcoming community events, the members of Cedars Grove AME Church in Whitmire plan a day of celebration on May 10. The church will celebrate its 144 years of worship. Church members and family members of deceased members will be honored. Any members or former members are asked to please submit church and members history. The Whitmire Economic Development Board will host its Health Walk on Saturday April 5 near the downtown area. Former Whitmire resident, Haskell Walker will coordinate areas of the walk and Major/Rev. Todd Johnson will also be a participant.
Various levels and walk paths will be available for beginners to advanced walkers. Water stations will be at various locations. For more information, contact Maria McMurtury at 803-537-6826 or comments can be made on the board’s Economic Development Facebook page.
The board members held a successful charity auction on March 15 at the community center. There were lots of pretty, useful eclectic items like art, paintings and glassware up for auction and sale.

Congrats to the WCS Math Bowl teams. The fourth and fifth graders did well in their recent competition.
Sunnysides Tanning Salon held its grand opening March 15. Their location is on Gilliam Street and is open seven days per week. The salon is owned by Jeannie Fish and Oscar Avila. The salon offers boutique merchandise like Tee’s Handmade purses, sunglasses and tanning supplies. Walk-ins are welcome.
