Hello everyone, welcome to spring but one more winter fling is on the way this week. The birthday fairy has one more wing de-ice for the season and then its spring and summer coolant refill and linen and cotton wing covers. Yep, let’s do our birthday wishes and then on to local events.

Happy birthday to Austin and West Jenkins, Adam Caudill, Bill Wicker, LaChoyce Glenn, Robbie Felker, Danny Gilliam, Sherry Rice, Louis “Boots” Nagy, Lisa Heath, Eddie “Moates” Bledsoe, Mike “Tusi” Gregory, Rene R. Pressley, and Marcelie Tucker.

Congrats and well-wishes

Congratulations to former Whitmire residents, Theresa and Johnnie Wardlaw Jr. on the recent birth of their granddaughter, Lillian Rose. Lillian’s parents are Tracie and Josh Wardlaw.

We send our best feel good wishes for a speedy recovery to William “Bill” Lindler Sr., Joe Lindler Sr., and Harry “The Padre” Felker.

Community Events

In upcoming community events, the members of Cedars Grove AME Church in Whitmire plan a day of celebration on May 10. The church will celebrate its 144 years of worship. Church members and family members of deceased members will be honored. Any members or former members are asked to please submit church and members history. The event organizer and contact person is Fannie Hopkins and her phone number is 803-694-3513.

The Whitmire Economic Development Board will host its Health Walk on Saturday April 5 near the downtown area. Former Whitmire resident, Haskell Walker will coordinate areas of the walk and Major/Rev. Todd Johnson will also be a participant.

Various levels and walk paths will be available for beginners to advanced walkers. Water stations will be at various locations. For more information, contact Maria McMurtury at 803-537-6826 or comments can be made on the board’s Economic Development Facebook page.

The board members held a successful charity auction on March 15 at the community center. There were lots of pretty, useful eclectic items like art, paintings and glassware up for auction and sale.

The calendar of events is listed on their page as well as the town’s website, www.townofwhitmire.webs.com.

Congrats to the WCS Math Bowl teams. The fourth and fifth graders did well in their recent competition.

New business

Sunnysides Tanning Salon held its grand opening March 15. Their location is on Gilliam Street and is open seven days per week. The salon is owned by Jeannie Fish and Oscar Avila. The salon offers boutique merchandise like Tee’s Handmade purses, sunglasses and tanning supplies. Walk-ins are welcome.

Okay readers, the deadline fairy is tapping my shoulder and dusting my laptop with green wing dust. What does that mean? Time is up and ready for press time.
