Have you ever watched an animal play with its prey? That is my impression of our current weather patterns. You see, I grew up on my parents’ farm, and one can always see mice anywhere farmers store grain. Well to deal with that problem, my father always had two or three cats. Now, if you cannot deal with the death of vermin, then this story will not be to your liking. Since I never liked mice, in my mind, this story is part of life.
Cats are very adept at catching mice and more often than not, they do not kill them right off. They will play with their captive by letting them go and just as they believe they have escaped, the cat nabs them again. Eventually, the cat tires of the game and kills the mouse, but it has always amazed me as I viewed this process.
Now how does this relate to our current weather patterns? I have always believed our Creator has a sense of humor. This last week we had several warm sunny days and the world was good. Everyone was outside eagerly anticipating the coming of spring.
Now, if current predictions become a reality, this coming week will see us facing some very cold weather once again. How long it will it last is the big question. In my mind, I keep repeating my interpretation of the Bible verse, “I will never put more on you than you can endure.” So think about it this way: as we approach spring, we are just one day closer to one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.
In the meantime, consider taking part in some of the events throughout Newberry. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, February 25 your Newberry County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual meeting. This would be a wonderful way for you to take your best friend out to a fantastic dinner and entertainment by Mr. Frank King, a comedian who is sure to have you laughing hysterically.
So why not call your Chamber at 276-4274 and secure your seating arrangements for an event that will be catered by Figaro-The Dining Room? We believe you will thoroughly enjoy an evening of fun which starts with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. and dinner and entertainment at 7:30.
This event will be held at the Friend Building (the old Thomas and Howard building) located at 901 Friend Street in Newberry. You owe it to yourself to get involved in events at your Chamber. What a way to rid yourself of those winter blues! Check us out. You will be glad you did.
