Foster Care — who knew? Did you know that there are over 45 children in foster care in Newberry and only 11 licensed resource foster homes in this same county to serve as placement options for these children? What does this mean?
This means that children in Newberry that enter foster care and have no placement option have two options. These options are to be placed in foster homes outside of the county or group homes in or out of county.
Did you know that you do not have to be perfect to become a resource foster parent? You do however have to be 21 years of age or older, be able to pass a series of background checks, have patience and love, be able to show you are financially responsible, have a room for a child or children in your home (not their own room), be physically and emotionally able to care for a child/children and also be able to pass home and health inspections?
What’s keeping you from making a difference in Newberry? The children that enter foster care are children that have experienced neglect and abuse that often changes their lives.
You can make a difference by opening your heart and home to a child in foster care.
