Guess what folks? There is a great new restaurant in Historic Downtown Newberry.
Located at 1117 Boyce St., formerly Delamater’s, this building is also known as the old State Bank building. For you history buffs, it was the first bank in the Upstate when the S.C. General Assembly authorized private banking.
The new owner, Bobby Shirey, and manager, David Martin, have opted to renovate and reopen this historic site.
“Figaro is a restaurant of destination featuring a continental menu that offers Newberry style of hospitality at reasonable prices, is the best way to describe our restaurant,” said manager David Martin. “The dress code is simply this, casual to dressy; it is a come-as-you-are atmosphere simply because we want you to feel comfortable when you are seated in our exquisite facility.”
Figaro opens for breakfast at 7 a.m. and remains open throughout the day for lunch and well into the evening for the dinner hour. Seldom have we had a downtown restaurant offering this option. Oh, by the way, open seven days a week.
As for my personal experiences at Figaro, one cannot help but notice the added value when entering; the exquisite shiny black tables, white linen table napkins, a well dressed and neatly groomed staff seem to anticipate your every need.
I am a breakfast person, so I have enjoyed several items on the breakfast menu and found every order to my liking. Mr. Martin’s goal is to have Figaro the morning destination and gathering place for the business community. The Saturday and Sunday breakfasts can actually be described as Social Brunches.
Lunch is an experience at Figaro, loaded with daily specials, soup of the day, or you can go crazy and order from a large lunch menu. Nor will you be disappointed during the dinner hour. Every presentation is built just as you ordered, will look fantastic when it appears at your table; and the taste awesome.
Since opening on Dec. 16, 2013, I have heard many reviews, and 98 percent have been of a positive experience. As I see it, this tells me Mr. Shirey and Mr. Martin have done their homework, and this restaurant will only get better. I highly recommend you try this new Chamber member. I am betting you will become a fan of Figaro.
