Memory is one of our greatest assets. As I age, I realize this statement is true and very important for our well being. Now I must tell you, our memory can often be clouded by many things.
For instance, take a tragic event where several people are witnesses and when questioned, each person recalls seeing something completely different. Why is that? Could it be that the environment in which we were raised causes us to see and respond differently than others?
Over the last several years, I have sat in many classes where instructors taught students to challenge their comfort zones and visualize themselves in other environments not conducive to our normal way of life. I came away from these classes with a mindset to consider all environments when making decisions. Please know that I am not always successful. However, I do believe if we will only take the time to revisit our past, we can always see mistakes and through close examinations, we have the ability of reasoning which can assist us in planning our future.
So, if you agree with me, why not aggressively review the past (which by now is 2013), and please take your time. It is helpful to put your thoughts in print, and again, take your time and do not hurry. This is an important step and should not be rushed.
I suggest you list: 1. Successes, 2. Failures, 3. Outside influences and finally and 4. Your thoughts on the results.
It is critical at this point for you to be very truthful. Sometimes we absolutely refuse to believe something until we see it in print. Also critical at this point is your memory. So, what do you do with this information? I believe you need to go through this process to determine your future. Many of the things that really matter often get lost in our memory simply because we focus on grudges and failed promises. Why not choose to focus on the good instead of the bad? After all, life is short so why don’t you choose to celebrate with us?
Here at your Chamber, we believe 2014 is going to be a great year. Do we offer any proof of our prediction? Well, not exactly, but we are opting to be proactive and we firmly believe that Newberry County will witness unprecedented growth in this New Year. Throughout our county we are seeing people come together in a willingness to foster economic growth.
Our future looks bright; at least that is our belief. Your Chamber wishes you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. Have you ever taken the time to stop by your Chamber? Please stop by and allow Liz, Michelle, or me to tell you about your Chamber and its members. We would love to see you.
