If you are like me, I am sure you will agree this is the best time of every year! To me, it seems that every year in January and February we have a time where we are not quite as excited about anything, possibly caused by the winter weather, colds and flu season, end of year taxes, etc.
Then comes March and all of a sudden we are experiencing spring. We respond by getting outside more and even start our spring cleaning. It is at this point we realize we made it through winter, so why not start enjoying life again. That little glimmer of life causes us to awaken, just as the earth is awakening with new life, and the momentum starts building.
The next thing we know it is summer, schools are in recess, young people are graduating, wedding plans are coming to fruition, and our gardens are overflowing with fantastic vegetables. In other words, “Life is Good.” By this time we are feeling invigorated and excited about our Newberry lifestyle. Meanwhile, throughout the country, vacation plans cause thousands of people to travel through our state.
Many of these people discover Newberry, dubbed “The City of Friendly Folks.” Some of these vacationers become so infatuated with our lifestyle, they decide to make Newberry their home. Here at your Chamber, in many cases we are the first locals our visitors get to meet and we consider it a privilege to host everyone opting to enter your Visitors Center.
It is at this point, I must tell you that greeting these visitors is the highlight at your Chamber. We simply love meeting new people. Then, all of a sudden, it is fall, and school is back in session. The summer heat is easing, leaves on our hardwoods start turning, football becomes an obsession, and again, “Life is Good.”
Fall also means we are fast approaching Thanksgiving, a time to celebrate with family and friends, eat entirely too much, then begin the task of decorating for Christmas, which again puts us in my favorite time of the year. A time when Christians throughout the world celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Jesus was God’s gift to us and this ultimate sacrifice became synonymous with giving gifts to those we love. When one stops to consider how very fortunate we are, we surely must say, “Life is Good.”
Here at your Chamber, we would love to share this wonderful time with you, so as you come downtown Newberry to see the Christmas decorations, (by the way, they look better this year than I have ever seen them), stop by your Chamber. We would love to tell you the many benefits awaiting you through Chamber membership. So, from Michelle, Liz, and myself, Merry Christmas and remember, “Life Is Good, especially when shared.”
