Take time to smell the roses
Last Monday, your Chamber held its 21st annual Golf Tournament. The golfers started arriving at 11 a.m. to sign in and enjoy lunch cooked by Mac and Cynthia Bell of Newberry Sonic Drive-In.
This year Mac chose hot dogs and all the trimmings. Play started at noon and it was evident every golfer present was there to have a good time. Since it fell on Michelle, Liz, and me to have everything in place by 10:30 a.m., our day started very early. The fall weather was simply gorgeous and after we got the golfers started, I was able to relax and motor around the course to take pictures and thank the players for participating in our tournament.
Possibly it was the beautiful setting, maybe the ideal sunny temperature causing everyone to be in such a fantastic mood, I really don’t know, but it was inspiring to listen to all the laughter coming from across the course.
As I listened, it reminded me of that old saying, “laughter is the best medicine,” and also got me to thinking, each and every one of us should take a day off during the Fall, get outside and enjoy this beautiful world God made for our enjoyment. Each of us is completely different with varied preferences, but here in Newberry County, South Carolina, there are so many things to do, it should be rather easy for you to choose.
I mean, here we are within two to three hours from the mountains, the beach, or any of the larger cities, i.e. Atlanta, Charlotte, or Charleston. So, does this give you any ideas?
Two weeks ago, Liz took the day off to go to the mountains to pick apples. She had a great time and came back to work the following week telling us how much she enjoyed her trip. Personally, I believe an occasional day off helps each of us to be better employees, and our Fall weather is the perfect time since winter weather is almost on us. By the way, your day off does not have to be a Monday through Friday workday, it can easily be on the weekend. You just need to take some time to forget your workday world and enjoy the sheer South Carolina beauty.
So, how about you? Will you take time to enjoy the world around you? If you need ideas, why not stop by your Chamber/ Visitors Center and browse our selection of brochures. We may even help you make your decision regarding where to go.
We are confident that while you are here, you will be impressed with your Chamber of Commerce. You may even realize the benefits of Chamber membership are exactly what you need. Why not call your Chamber today and ask either Liz, Michelle, or me about your Chamber membership. Call (803) 276-4274 today.
