This morning, even though I have been busy, I have been humming the words of a great song, “United we stand, divided we fall, and if our backs should ever be against the wall, we’ll be together.”
Now why would I be humming this song, you might ask? Well, please allow me to explain. I firmly believe people in Newberry County are coming together to form a unity not previously seen. You might ask, “What evidence do you have?” Allow me to explain.
Let’s look at events your Chamber is a part of and the benefits we all receive from them. If you attended Oktoberfest last Saturday, surely you must have appreciated the efforts of the City of Newberry’s Parks and Recreation employees who worked together to present this event for approximately 15,000 plus visitors. Personally, I felt this event was one of our best Oktoberfest presentations.
Every Oktoberfest in honor of our German heritage, your Chamber presents the Liver Nips contest. It is always well received and the crowd this year was awesome.
Another event currently taking place in our county is the Newberry County Scarecrow Convention. The entry deadline was set for Oct. 12, and we fully expect over 40 participants. Due to the current excitement level, I believe this event will become an annual occurrence, encouraging thousands of visitors.
Shortly after the Scarecrow Convention, your Chamber will offer the Newberry County Christmas Lights contest, another event for our county residents to earn extra cash. This contest will be explained mid November, and we believe it, too, will be well received.
So, with these events promoting unity in Newberry County, why shouldn’t we all be singing the “United We Stand” song? These are just small glimmers of the unity we are witnessing in our county. Additional items promoting unity are the improving reputation of our schools, Realtors seeing a renewed interest in our housing market, and our improving industrial workforce. All of these areas point to a better Newberry, and if you are getting involved, thank you for doing so. However, if you are still sitting on the sidelines, I encourage you to join us in our rallying cry, “United We Stand.”
