NEWBERRY COUNTY — The American Legion Post 24 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 honored Palmetto Girls and Boys State delegates with a dinner July 8 along with their families.
Girls State at Presbyterian College and Boys State at Anderson University were held the week of June 8. The programs are nationwide Americanism and government training program for students who have just completed their junior year of high school.
Through participation, delegates may better understand the functioning of their government and the responsibilities they will assume when they become adults.
Delegates for Girls State attending were Sarah Jane Senn, Jenna Bodie, Bailey Lou Doolittle, Jennifer Shealy, Bethany Cromer.
Delegates for Boy State attending were Luke Caraway, CJ Connelly, Jarod Joiner, Caleb Lawrimore, JJ Melvin, and Dylan Skipper.
Other delegates honored, but not in attendance, were Amy Andrews, Hetal Patel, Kenley Longshore, Emily Senn, Emma Lindsay, Dalton Brogdon, Tyler French, Jordan Chase, Noah Shakkori, and Ryan Studer.
After being introduced each delegate gave a brief summary of their week’s activities. Each one was thankful for being chosen and had an amazing week. They stated they learned a lot about government and made lifelong friends.
