NEWBERRY — Allen University alumni Clyde Hill is helping the University with the second annual Clyde Hill Invitational Golf Tournament.
The tournament will be held Aug. 23 at the Country Club of Newberry, 414 Country Club Road.
The first tournament was held last year in honor of Hill who serves as chairman of the Allen University Alumni Football Initiative Inc.
The purpose of the football initiative is to generate the necessary revenue to enhance the athletic department and to bring the University’s football program back. Fundraisers such as the golf tournament will be used to help with this goal.
Hill said the plan is to raise one million dollars before football is started to make sure the necessary funds have been raised.
“Athletics drives the enrollment of our colleges,” Hill said. “Without that it is tough to bring in students.”
The tournament registration is $70 per person if payment is received by August 9. From that point, the rate is $80 per person. The fee includes green and cart fees, as well as a meal.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. Aug. 23 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. It will be a one-day, two-person Captain’s Choice Team tournament.
There are several sponsorship opportunities, Hill said for the golf tournament which would allow each hole to be sponsored by an individual or business. Those prices can be found by contacting Hill at 924-4640.
