COLUMBIA — Local singers and dancers from the S.C. Music and Dance Academy took a break from rehearsing to take their fun to half a dozen nursing and retirement homes the week of May 19. More than 75 routines will be performed across the Midlands as the thirty-plus year old tradition continues.
This year’s show is entitled “Classic Cartoons” featuring original opening and closing songs written by studio director Christy Shealy Mills. Dancers from age 2 to senior citizens will dance to songs loosely tied in to the cartoon theme.
Helping that to happen are three Lexington ladies: Ann Marie Green, Caryn Kirk and Lorri Unumb, who carry on another longtime tradition by portraying wacky characters who help to introduce routines. This year they will be bringing to life cartoon characters that never made it off of the drawing board.
Among other highlights are the Columbia Tappers, Town Theatre’s adult performing group; the Town ‘n’ Country Cloggers and the M.A.D. Academy PeeWee Clogging Team.
Public performances of the show, which are free, are on May 25 at 6 p.m at Batesburg High School and June 5 at Columbia’s Town Theatre at 7 p.m. Contact Christy Mills at 924-1231 or send an email to Christy.Mills@SCMusicAndDanceAcademy.com for more information.
