The Newberry City Police Department reported the following incidents:


— Terry Lee Jr., 24, of 414 J.L. Koon Road in Prosperity, was issued a citation for drug paraphernalia on March 22. Officers responded to a call at 1100 Friend St. to a subject in the bathroom possibly doing drugs. A mother had informed library staff that her son had walked into the bathroom and observed someone with drugs. Officers found a wooden box in Lee’s backpack containing a syringe, a cut straw, a spoon and Q-tips.


— David Hedgepeth, 23, of 924 Floyd Road in Newberry, was charged with public intoxication, open container and profane obscene language on March 23. Officers responded to 2700 Oakland Mills Road to assist EMS for an individual passed out on college property. Hedgepeth’s speech was slurred, his eyes were glassy and he was unsteady on his feet. Hedgepeth also used profane language in a loud voice.


— Javier Lopez, 21, of 16 Lopez Lane in Newberry, was arrested March 28 for trespassing. Officers responded to the music building at Newberry College in reference to a person trespassing after being served a notice. College security informed the officer that Lopez had been placed on trespass notice earlier that day. Lopez said he was a member of the band, but not a student. When asked about Lopez’s status, the band director for the college informed officers that he had received an email from administration about Lopez being placed on notice.
