The Newberry Police Department responded to the following incidents:
• A Newberry woman reported that she was at an insurance company on Main Street in Newberry around 9 a.m. Feb. 4 when a man approached her and asked for a ride and possibly some money. The woman said she took the man to several locations before going to the bank to get money to pay an insurance bill.
She told police that she asked the man to go in and pay her insurance bill, which he did. The man told her that he paid the bill. The woman reported that she later received a phone call that the bill had not been paid. Police are looking into the incident.
• Leroy Douglas Cook Jr. was arrested and charged with shoplifting after he was stopped by police with butter and sliced cheese he had allegedly taken from Dollar General, 3176 College St. in Newberry. Cook was found about 100 yards from the store by the police who were responding to the call.
