Hello everyone, local news on the way. Gottrocks the Birthday Fairy was running late this week due to the ice and snow. Yes, he was stranded in Texas. Of all places, Texas had a snowstorm.

At least the weather is back to its wintry feel in time for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, The Whitmire Jaycees hosted the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Whitmire on Friday. The WCS band and elementary chorus performed Christmas music and carols as Assistant Principal Martha Suber led the program.

Mayor Billy Hollingsworth welcomed the crowd, as councilman Clay Bodie turned the lights on. Whitmire Ministers Geneva Ware and Tony Dickert gave the scripture reading and prayers. The Jaycees served hot cocoa. Folks made many remarks about the weather: “This has to be the warmest Friday in December for the tree lighting.”

It was truly the warmest for me. Now as I write this column its back down to 45 degrees and rainy damp cold December weather and rainy. New Moanya weather as the older folks call it.

Upcoming celebrations include a 90th birthday drop in for Helen Lewis at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Lambert on Dec. 14. Also, a birthday celebration for Helen Nichols at The First Church Of God on Duckett Street on Dec. 12.

The Whitmire Christmas parade is this Saturday at noon. Line up is on Broad Street, beside Nick’s Car Wash. Santa will be on hand after the parade top hear the kids Christmas wishes. Everyone is invited to Whitmire for the parade.

We say Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frye on their recent celebration of 52 years. Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. William “Lefty” Johnson on their 48th anniversary.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Blake Farmer on the recent birth of their son Charlie Grant Farmer. Mrs. Farmer is Carly Jeter, daughter of Sandy E. and Phillip Jeter of Whitmire. Paternal grandparents are Susie Wilson and David Farmer.

On a sad note, we send our best wishes to the families of Tony Shouse, Betty Suber and Ronnie Abrams.

In closing this week’s edition, I’ll say that Gottrocks will have the birthdays as sure as Garabund the Deadline Fairy will have my deadlines issues, like he is now. Until next week, send us your news, photos, civic/church events to news2cassie@yahoo.com.
