Hello everybody, local news on the way after we send out our friends and neighbors their friendly birthday wishes from Gottrocks The Birthday Fairy.

Happy Birthday wishes to former Whitmire resident Billy (Bill) Lindler, Brad Burleson, Mike Cheatham, Tony English, and Lynn Greenway. Special wishes to William Worthy who celebrated his 86th birthday with family and friends. As we say, Whitmire Style — a delicious meal was served and a good time was had by all. My little handsome cousin, Rhett Gilliam celebrated his fifth birthday with his family and his favorite chocolate covered ice cream cake. A good time was had by all.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Cheryl and Danny Wayne Nichols.

One a sad note, we send our sympathy and best wishes to the families of former Whitmire resident Guy “Buck” Reed.

In local news and events: Main Street yard Sale will be coming up Oct. 12 downtown. Space/spots are $10 per table/booth space. The Whitmire Jaycees are hosting this community event. Out of town groups or individual vendors are encouraged to rent spaces.

This is a great opportunity for civic, school and church groups to earn money for projects and missions. Contact the Jaycees at whitmirejaycees@yahoo.com or call Sue Hollingsworth at 803-694-3797 if interested. The Jaycees also have a Facebook organization page.

Former WHS coaches William “Lefty” Johnson, Ken Coleman, and the late Irby Raines Jr. were recently honored with a new stadium sign dedication at Friday’s football game. The Wolverine Stadium was re-named “Legends Stadium” in honor of all the contributions to the school and community the these three longtime teachers, coaches, principals and friends have made.
