Pastor Michael Brown

NEWBERRY — New Creation Church, located on 1310 Main St., has called Newberry home for the past two years. The Apostolic church came to Newberry after Pastor Michael Brown felt a calling.

“It was a vision the Lord gave to me of people crying out for change and direction. The Lord told me to lead these people,” Brown said. “I asked the Lord where, I thought Greenwood, but he spoke to my heart and said Newberry.”

The congregation is currently 25 and many come from Newberry, Greenwood, Columbia and Camden. Some of the church members also come from North Carolina, specifically the Mars Hill and Fayetteville areas.

“Our service starts at 10 a.m. and we have some members who travel three hours a day for church, they are very dedicated and are never late,” Brown said. “We have a very good congregation. They are dedicated to the community and the work of Jesus Christ.”

The mission of the church is to seek and find the lost, lead them to Jesus Christ while directing them into spiritual purpose as well as natural purpose.

“We are here to add the Kingdom of the living God a people that will service him as well as becoming servants to all humanity,” Brown said.

Although the church has been in Newberry for two years, they have just recently started to branch out. During its first two years the church worked to get everything in house in order. Now that they feel they have done so, they have been getting involved. They have hosted a blood drive, given away free clothes to those in need, free food and they have knocked on doors to get their name out there.

“We are really interested in helping the community,” Brown said. “When I came to Newberry I noticed a lot of opportunity here, a lot of youth and young adults who want more out of life. I feel we are here to help them be successful.”
