NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Family YMCA has opportunities for the community to enhance and promote healthy lifestyles, youth development and social responsibility.
A membership to the YMCA offers opportunities for fitness, helps build relationships and offers opportunities to give back to others.
Memberships include use of the fitness facility, which will get some new equipment including treadmills, while some current machines will be moved to an overflow area. All group exercise classes are included with a membership.
The YMCA also has a whirlpool, sauna and steam room, and a pool as well as a state-of-the-art basketball gym with an indoor walking track above the gym for when there is inclement weather.
Senior citizens or those with health issues can take advantage of Silver Sneakers classes to work on flexibility, balance and strength. The YMCA recently added Zumba Gold classes, Zumba classes for senior adults that are slower than normal Zumba and easier to navigate.
A “Walk with Ease” program will begin in March for those with while two water aerobic classes are available to help with flexibility.
The YMCA, in conjunction with the Newberry County Recreation Department, is offering T-ball, Coaches Pitch, girls softball, soccer academy, Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys. Contact the YMCA for more information.
Swim lessons are offered throughout the year with an improved swim lesson format this summer. The Newberry Eels, the championship team, will be open for new members starting April 7.
The annual Healthy Kid’s Day on April 25 will feature a “Splash and Dash” competition, along with fun games and activities. Information about summer camps, swim lessons and other opportunities will be available.
