Senior adults group takes a trip
NEWBERRY — Autumn is the perfect time of year to visit the mountains of North Georgia to view the changing colors and enjoy a brisk mountain waterfall. That is exactly what several members of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Senior Adult Group did on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.
Nine members of the Senior Adult group led by the new director of Senior Adult Activities, Marquerite Palmer, visited Helen, Ga., and the surrounding area during the group’s first overnight trip.
The group spent the day enjoying the scenery and shopping in the Georgia town that was modeled after a Bavarian village. That evening all nine participants along with Palmer and their van driver Joe shared an authentic German meal together.
The following morning the group had breakfast at a German bakery before visiting a winery, grist mill and coffee roaster. One of the last stops before leaving the mountains was to visit the dramatic waterfall in Toccoa Falls, Ga.
The van was full of laughter, souvenirs and happily tired participants when it arrived back in Newberry late on the afternoon of Oct. 22. Participant Faye Clamp and several others agreed that they were looking forward to many more trips as enjoyable as the one to Helen.
