NEWBERRY — Students and employees can now make meals fit their busy schedules under a to-go program offered by the Newberry College cafeteria.

Under the new program, students carry a keychain-size badge that they exchange for a personal to-go box. When the box needs to be cleaned, the students can drop the box off and pick up a new one.

Students are responding well to the program, which allows student leaders and student athletes to get a meal when they don’t have time to sit down in the dining hall.

“It allows me to eat on my own schedule,” says senior Erin Eisenhauer. “With field hockey practice and other activities, it’s hard to have a sit-down meal. The new program allows me to grab food and eat on my own time.”

College employees have also enjoyed the take-out program. Enrollment Management reception coordinator Heather Cox says the option “allows me to grab lunch and be able to eat while I work.”

The to-go program was an issue Student Government Association president Rachel Williams championed during her campaign.

“I created the program with students in mind as well as the faculty and staff,” Williams says. “The program allows them to eat and continue working.”

The take-out program is among several changes to Dining Services for the new year. Other changes include a new salad and sandwich bar in the cafeteria, and the new Eco Grounds Coffee Shop in Kaufmann Hall.
