Cotillion Club announces debutantes

NEWBERRY — The Cotillion Club presented two debutantes at its annual ball on Dec. 6, 2013, at the Country Club of Newberry. This year’s annual ball also marked the 60th anniversary of the Club. Prior to the ball, a reception was held at the home of President Richard Tyson Hursey and Mrs. Hursey.

The debutantes presented were:

Logan Elizabeth Schumpert, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Claude Hutchinson Schumpert, was presented by her father. She is a granddaughter of the late club member Robert Dennis Schumpert. Her escort was Thomas Ryan Merritt and her marshal was Corbin Rankin Lee.

Virginia Grace Summer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Walter Summer Jr., was presented by her father. Her escort was William Richard Senn and her marshal was Zachary Tyler Stevens.

After the presentation and grand march, a seated dinner and dancing followed. The officers of the club are Richard Tyson Hursey, president; Edward Stribble Longshore, vice president; and James Robert Talbot, secretary-treasurer.

The Board of Governors includes John Bryan Derrick, Gregory Eugene Evans, John Benjamin Lindsay III and Robert Price McCartha, ex-officio. Chairman of the 60th anniversary committee is Richard Baker Carter.
