NEWBERRY — Thomas Louis Boyd is running for re-election for City Council District 5. The following are his words to the Newberry community:
The City of Newberry is a great place to live and I have had the honor and privilege of representing the citizens in District 5 for several years. In that time, we have accomplished a lot and there is more left to be done. With a supportive community, anything is possible.
The Vincent Street Park is now complete with new bathrooms, shelter with fans, playground equipment and basketball courts that are “State of the Art” and second to none. The park is suitable for tournaments, family reunions, basketball summer camps, picnics, and other activities that will address quality of life concerns and generate revenue for the city.
We are aware of the history of this park and the dedication, commitment and contribution made by Dr. Julian E. Grant with the People Hospital. We have dedicated a historic marker in his memory and renamed the park in his honor.
We have made other significant accomplishments during my tenor as your councilman for District 5, such as:
• New water and sewer lines (West End)
• Streetscape Improvements (West End)
• Member of C.A.P. Board of Directors
• Helped serve families in the community to become first-time homeowners
I am proud of the progress we have made and I could not have accomplished these things without the support of the Newberry City Council, City Manager and staff. I will continue to be your eyes, ears and a voice for you on City Council. I ask for your support in re-electing me as your councilman for District 5.
