NEWBERRY — Look out, Newberry County: Super Johnnie is coming to a park near you. And if you figure out the park he’s hanging out in, you could win a Park Passport good for free entry to any of the state’s 47 state parks.
The City of Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is using this unique contest to urge residents to “get outside and get in a park” during July, which is National Parks and Recreation Month. This year’s theme is “Out Is In.”
Here is how the contest will work: Beginning June 30, the City of Newberry Facebook page will feature a cropped photo of Super Johnnie, played by PRT Program Manager Johnnie Caldwell, at a park in Newberry County.
Those who correctly identify the park will be entered to win a S.C. State Parks Service gift package that includes a Park Passport for free entry to all 47 state parks. The passport will be good through August 2015.
Winners will be announced the following Monday on the City’s Facebook page, in The Newberry Observer and on the Recreation Report on WKDK. The full photo revealing the park Super Johnnie is in will be posted in The Newberry Observer along with the week’s gift package winner and information about the featured park.
Each week’s contest ends at midnight each Friday. Guesses must be posted on the City’s Facebook page under the Super Johnnie picture post. City of Newberry employees and their family members are not eligible to win.
Winners will pick up their gift packages at the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, 1323 College St. Proper identification may be required.
