WHITMIRE — The second reading of an ordinance for action against Whitmire residents that have not yet displayed their new 911 home addresses was unanimously approved by Whitmire Town Council Monday evening.

The next step, according to Mayor Billy Hollingsworth is to identify those residents that still have not posted their new 911 address, and notify them of the oridinance. At that point, they will have 15 days to complete the requirements before any consequences happen.

Maria McMurtury spoke on behalf of the Whitmire Economic Development Board and their upcoming events for the town which include an upcoming trash pickup for the town of Whitmire, a Wellness Walk in April, and a Veteran’s parade and antique car show coming up this summer.

McMurtury also spoke on the idea of a visitor’s area for those coming into the town for the first time, hoping to gather more information about it’s history and what it has to offer.

For more information on McMurtury’s plan, or for updates on Whitmire’s recreation programs, and financials, see Wednesday’s copy of The Newberry Observer.
