NEWBERRY — Newberry Academy’s cheerleading team participated in the S.C. Independent School Association (SCISA) state competition Nov. 9, hosted by Newberry College.


This is the first year Newberry Academy has fielded a state-level varsity competitive cheerleading squad. The team’s hard work and dedication this season was rewarded with a second place finish in the state gametime division category. The team, coached by Christie Gardner, is comprised of 15 student members from grades 6 to 12.


Newberry Academy is the leading college-preparatory independent school for both the city and county of Newberry. The student body is comprised of nearly 200 students in grades three year old kindergarten through 12th grade.
