NEWBERRY — In observance of our nation’s Independence Day, certain Newberry County offices and services will be operating on different schedules next Friday, July 4.
Newberry city and county governmental offices will be closed next Friday according to Assistant City Manager Matt DeWitt and Karen Lindler with the Newberry County Treasurer’s office.
Trash pick-ups within the city of Newberry will be affected by the upcoming holiday. DeWitt said that residential garbage will be picked up on Thursday, July 3, but will not be picked up on Friday.
Because trash pick up is typically done on Mondays in the town of Prosperity, Town Administrator Karen Livingston said the holiday will not affect their normal routes.
Jimmy Brock, with the Town of Whitmire said that their offices will also be closed on July 4. Because their trash routes normally run on Mondays and Tuesdays, they will not be affected by the holiday.
Banks and post offices will also be closed on that day.
Crystal Mitchel, administrative assistant in the foundation/marketing department of Newberry Hospital said that the Emergency Room will remain open on July 4 as it never closes. Lab work such as x-rays and other diagnostic work can be done as needed and necessary but Mitchel reminded that that community cannot simply come in to just get lab work completed.
The wellness center and administration offices at NCMH, however will be closed in observance of the holiday. Newberry’s YMCA will also be closed.
The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce is also closed.
Stacy Guy, Newberry County Recycling Coordinator said that the transfer station site on Highway 34 in Newberry along with the site on Seibert Road will be closed on July 4.
“Those are the only two open on Fridays anyway, and they will be closed that day,” Guy said.
Janet Ballentine with the Newberry County Council on Aging said that their administration offices will be closed also next Friday, however their transportation will run on a normal basis. This includes their dialysis, doctors appointments, and other non-emergency services.
This does not include the SMART Ride transportation system, Ballentine said which is closed. Senior programs and the Meals on Wheels program is also closed.
