NEWBERRY — Newberry residents slipped on their best tuxedos and dresses as they made their way to the second annual charity ball sponsored by Women on a Mission.

The event was held at Newberry Community Hall on May 17.

Women on a Mission is a non-profit organization founded by McKeva Kinard Shelton. The program provides a safe and secure living environment for people who have nowhere to go.

Special guests included but was not limited to the mayor, author/play writer Terrence L. Gallman, founder and senior pastor of Kingdom South Church, Sean M. Dreher and WKDK. Each were guest speakers at the Charity Ball.

A silent auction was held to help raise money for the Women on a Mission Foundation.

“What McKeva is doing arrests my heart,” Dreher said during his speech.

The organization has transformed the house donated by Mary Lane Ard into a home for families in need.

The next event will be held June 7. The fundraiser will be used to help a local resident who lost everything. The goal of this event is to help people come together and support the family.

The event will be held at 311 Langford St. in Prosperity from noon to 5 p.m. Games, food, entertainment and more will be provided at the event.
