NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Sheriff Department’s administrative offices/911 addressing are now open at 540 Wilson Road in the old Armory/Piedmont Tech Building.

The public entrance to the new Sheriff’s Office is off Walter Cousins Road (Lynchs’ Woods access road).

Sheriff Lee Foster said the sheriff’s force hopes to get all operations transferred into the building by the end of the week.

The transition has occurred in phases and as of Tuesday, the only operations still going on in the mobile trailer facilities were those of senior staff (the sheriff, chief deputy and majors).

Foster praised his officers and staff for their efforts to keep morale up and maintain professionalism as they served the public for years in the temporary office space, a short-term solution that became a long-term necessity as the renovation and re-purposing was planned and carried out on the armory facility.

Foster said the new facilities increase department capabilities and that more details would be given to that effect during media days in late spring/early summer.

Later this year the NCSO plans an open house so the public can view the facility and learn about the meeting space and advanced equipment, among other things, that their tax dollars bought for the force.
