CHAPIN — The Newberry County Sheriff’s Department was helping the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department hunt for two men Tuesday night after the pair was involved in a shooting that occurred around 5:30 p.m.

Helicopters and bloodhounds were being used to search in the area of Nursery Road just south of Little Mountain. Although the two men were thought to be armed, Lexington Sheriff James Metts said in a release that he didn’t think they posed an immediate threat to residents in the area.

The area they were searching is densely wooded with few residential homes.

Metts said in a release that the shooting happened during an argument between the three men. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was undergoing surgery for his wounds. There was no indication of his condition.
