NEWBERRY — Newberry County Council unanimously approved first reading of several proposed changes to zoning ordinances on Wednesday night.
First reading passed unanimously on an ordinance to change zoning on a Prosperity property from Rural R2 to General Commercial.
According to council, the owner of a boat/RV storage business off Dreher Island Road wants to expand. Council approved rezoning but Les Hoop questioned about woods area and buffer requirements.
Anne Peters with county zoning also explained the rationale of changing the parcel near Lake Greenwood.
First reading passed unanimously on an ordinance to a two-acre parcel from single family residential to RS1A.
The county planning commission unanimously approved the change which allows more boat/RV storage at an existing facility. Storage is needed as housing expands in the area.
The parcel on Homeland Way is owned by the subdivision. The changes still forbid manufactured homes and child daycare businesses in the area. All lots must be the same size in the rezoned area.
Owners can stay in RV campers 10 consecutive days per quarter provided they pay a special fee for the privilege.
