Criss Langston, 28, of Franklin was arrested Monday in the shooting of Michael Anthony Starnes, 48, from Heard County.
Langston turned himself in to Heard County officials for the murder of Starnes, Troup County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Stewart Smith, said.
According to Smith, Langston said he and Starnes were arguing and at some point, he shot Starnes.
Langston hid the firearm after the incident and led officials to the hiding place where it was recovered.
Langston was arrested yesterday morning in Heard County and was transported to the Troup County Jail.
He is being charged with felony murder, tampering with evidence and felony theft of a firearm.
The relationship between Langston and Starnes is still unclear Smith said.
The body of Starnes was found Friday evening and identified Sunday.
His death occurred sometime Friday afternoon or evening in the area of McCosh Mill Rd, according to a sheriff’s report.
Smith said that Starnes was found by a group of people who initially thought he was only unconscious. Upon further review, they discovered he had been shot.
According to the report, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to McCosh Mill Road at around 11:10 p.m. Deputies determined that Starnes was already dead when they arrived.
Medical personnel and investigators along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were dispatched to the scene. The victim was taken to the GBI laboratory in Atlanta for analysis as the investigation continues.
