NEWBERRY — Newberry County Council unanimously approved for the county to purchase a mobile morgue at the request of County Coroner Craig Newton. The purchase is an amendment to the budget due to the time sensitive nature of grant funding that goes with the proposed project. Newton requested the county purchase a truck as a multi-use vehicle for his office but council voted unanimously to due more research about alternative vehicles and up-fits in an effort to spend tax money prudently, according to council chairman Buddy Livingston.
In other new the Central SC Alliance gave an update to the county and summed up a 20-year partnership that continues with Newberry County and other contiguous counties in the region to attract jobs from sites worldwide.
Second readings passed unanimously for three ordinances.
During public comment time residents asked about road clearing practices, particularly as related to poultry businesses so feed trucks could reach farms during inclement weather. For more on these issues, see the Friday edition of The Newberry Observer.
