NEWBERRY COUNTY — Due to an abundance of caution, the School District of Newberry County has advised they will be closed Tuesday.
Forecasters have stated that the winter weather will begin to affect roads around noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday. According to Superintendent Bennie Bennett, it takes approximately 2.5 hours for buses to run their routes and return to their home schools. In order to get children off buses before the latest projected time of 2 p.m., elementary schools would have to release at 10:30 a.m. and high schools at 11 a.m. This would be difficult logistically to accomplish in order to meet safety of the children.
The School District will monitor the weather and road conditions and make decisions about future closures as the storm progresses.
