CHAPIN — A man being sought for Strong Armed Robbery led officers on a foot chase and search this afternoon.
Investigators were searching for the suspect on Lazy Brook Road in the Chapin section of Newberry County after they received information that he was in that area. An investigator located the suspect and attempted to arrest him; however, he began resisting arrest and was able to break free and run into the woods.
Officers from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington County Sheriff’s Office, Chapin Police Department, and State Law Enforcement Division all responded to the scene with a search using bloodhounds and the SLED helicopter.
The suspect was located hiding in a thick underbrush on Meadowlark Road. He was taken into custody without incident. The search lasted approximately an hour and a half and the suspect had covered more than a mile.
Christopher Walton David, 43, of 738 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, was arrested for Strong Armed Robbery on an existing warrant. He will also be charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer While Resisting Arrest. The officer was not injured during the incident.
David was being sought for strong armed robbery that occurred at the Quick Food Mart in Pomaria on Wednesday morning. David is accused of forcibly robbing a 73 year old man while he was pumping gas.
