NEWBERRY — A home at 2704 Milne Avenue in Newberry suffered from a fire Sunday around 4:40 p.m. The house is located behind the Oakland Mill between Second and Third Streets.

According to Newberry Fire Chief Keith Minick, no one was hurt and no one was at home.

“It started by the kitchen area,” Minick said about what they have investigated so far as of Monday morning. “It’s still under investigation.”

He said there was a lot of damage in the kitchen and it reached the second floor. The neighbor called in the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting with the family and putting them in a hotel. Friendly Fire Department, Bush River Fire Department and the rescue and EMS squads assisted as well.
