Newberry man killed in Thursday wreck

PROSPERITY — A 23-year-old Newberry man was killed early Thursday morning after the truck he was driving struck a Head Start/GLEAMS bus on Clara Brown Road.
Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said Mark Anson Neiger died of blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Tony Keller said the wreck occurred around 7:40 a.m. Thursday. Neiger was driving a 2001 Ford F-250 east on Clara Brown Road when he drove left of center, striking the bus that was heading west.
The driver of the bus, Christy M. Wise, was taken to Newberry County Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries. No students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt, according to Keller.
The Prosperity Fire Department, Prosperity Rescue Squad, Little Mountain Rescue Squad and Newberry County EMS responded to the scene. The Prosperity Rescue Squad and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
The S.C. Highway Patrol and Newberry County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
