Newberry gets ‘All Shook Up’ for the SC Elvis Festival

Thursday’s kick-off to the South Carolina Elvis Festival brought a crowd downtown as they heard from Master of Ceremonies Irv Cass about the plans for the weekend, followed by performances from some of the festival’s headliners.


Mayor Foster Senn welcomes guests and locals alike to the opening of the South Carolina Elvis Festival on Thursday evening which began with an outdoor concert, free to the public.


Dinner hour entertainment was provided with Elvis performers from the festival. They visited The Flying Pie and The Cabana Friday and Saturday evening before their evening shows at the Newberry Opera House.


Austin Irby was one of the ‘non-pro’ performers in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. Irby is from Honea Path.


Ben Portsmouth gets the crowd warmed up for the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at Thursday’s opening ceremony. Portsmouth was the 2012 Ultimate Elvis Champion. He is from the United Kingdom.


Bobby Hollis from Hanceville, Ala., was one of the ‘non-pro’ performers at the Newberry Opera House n Friday morning.


From Aiken, Jimmy Smith serenaded the crowd at the Newberry Opera House this past weekend.


At the young age of 4, Lilly described herself to be Elvis’ biggest fan. She and her mother attended several events throughout the festival weekend.


Michael Chambliss was one of the weekend’s headliners. Chambliss is from Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and was the winner of the Georgia Elvis Festival, as well as among the top 10 in the world.


Travis Powell was another big headliner for the South Carolina Elvis Festival this past weekend. Powell is from Shelby, N.C.
